MALVERN residents are being encouraged to let their hair down and enjoy a smash hit musical with an all-star cast.

Hairspay is coming to Malvern Theatres from Monday (October 5) to Saturday (October 10) as part of its major 40 week UK tour, which is guaranteed to get feet moving.

Acclaimed actress Freya Sutton plays Tracy Turnblad in 1960s Baltimore, where she begins a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV to fight for equality.

The cast also sees Tony Maudsley as Edna Turnblad, presenter Claire Sweeney as Velma Von Tussle, Olivier Award nominated actor and much-loved Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan as Wilbur Turnblad and West End performer Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle.

Jon Tsouras, Dex Lee, Ashley Gilmour, Lauren Stroud, Monique Young, Karis Jack, Adam Price, Tracey Penn and Layton Williams also hit the right notes in the louder than life musical.

The show originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards before the production opened in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 and won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical.

Tickets start from £30.50 and can be booked by visiting malvern-theatres.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01684 892277.
