Additional £5million awarded to help relieve congestion in Worcestershire

Malvern Editorial 18th Jan, 2020 Updated: 19th Jan, 2020   0

AN additional £5million of funding to continue the relieving congestion programme across Worcestershire has been announced in the council’s draft budget.

This includes improvements on Queen Street in Droitwich and Icknield Street Drive and Evesham Road in Redditch.

This proposed funding is additional to the £5million in previous years and the £6.6million awarded by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Coun Alan Amos, cabinet Member for highways at Worcestershire County Council, said: “Congestion is a priority for us because we know it’s important for our residents.

“This additional money will help us to deliver bigger, better schemes to relieve congestion across the county as well as allowing us to add a few more improvement hot spots to the list.”

The money is being earmarked to support schemes being developed for Bromsgrove and Evesham town centres.

In addition more than half of the £6.6million awarded by the DfT is being used to improve a number of walking and cycling routes across Bromsgrove.
