A NEW innovative Dementia Meeting Centre for Malvern is a step closer after a generous grant from the Allchurches Trust.
The Parish of Malvern Link with Cowleigh is in its final stages of fund-raising for the centre, which will soon be opening in the Link Room at St Matthias Church.
Dementia Meeting Centres help people with dementia to live life to the full and adapt to the changes they face because of the condition.
A range of enjoyable, stimulating activities focus on building confidence and self-esteem while carers are supported with guidance and advice.
They can attend the Meeting Centre with the person they care for or use the time to take a break from their caring responsibilities.
Rev Phillip Johnson, vicar of Malvern Link with Cowleigh, said: “Dementia Meeting Centres also help those living with the condition live at home for longer and enjoy a much better quality of life.
We’re really looking forward to opening the Malvern Link Dementia Meeting Centre later in the spring.
“The support of Allchurches Trust will enable us to make a real difference to the lives of local people.”
Allchurches Trust is one of the UK’s largest grant-making charities and gave more than £23million to churches, charities and communities in 2020.
Its funds come from its ownership of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.
Chloe Ewen, the Allchurches Trust’s grants officer, said the organisation was delighted its funding was supporting the development of the centre which would help many local people – affected by dementia – to feel safe, supported and less isolated.
“We can’t wait to see the finished Centre and the difference it makes to the community.”
Malvern Link Dementia Meeting Centre will open for people with dementia and their family carers later this spring.
