Celebrating 10 years of apprenticeships at Worcestershire County Council

TEN YEARS of apprenticeships is being celebrated by Worcestershire County Council.

The commemoration comes as part of National Apprenticeships Week which began on Monday and runs until Sunday, February 11.

More than 4,000 people across Worcestershire started an apprenticeship, with an increase in take-up of school leavers opting to do one. Statistics showed around one in every 20 people who left school last year chose to do an apprenticeship.

Worcestershire Apprenticeships project manager, Francesca Gibbs, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional growth – they’re an incredible route into employment and we’ve seen thousands of people locally take one on.

“National Apprenticeship Week allows us to put the spotlight on some of the local achievements, to myth bust, and it’s the perfect time for us to begin a year of celebrating our tenth anniversary.”

Worcestershire County Council, alongside Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership will be celebrate the success of individuals, businesses and apprenticeship providers throughout the week.

Coun Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy, infrastructure and skills, said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent chance for people of Worcestershire to gain employment and learn new skills.”

He added everyone was looking forward to sharing inspiring stories, celebrating successes and continuing the good work to extend the apprenticeship programme.

The Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards will be held on November 14 and nominations for the awards open on Friday, February 9.
