Chase School students celebrate GCSE results

STUDENTS from The Chase School rose to the challenge of ‘tougher’ GCSE exams to record excellent sets of results.

Exam results were revealed last Thursday with teenagers across the town being marked with grades from 9 to 1, replacing the traditional A* to G.

The new grading scheme was brought in alongside a new GCSE curriculum in England.

The highest grade is now a 9 with lowest being a 1.

Three number grades – 9, 8 and 7 – correspond to the old-style top grades of A* and A.

A total of 16 per cent of all all subject entries secured the top 8 and 9 grades (with a third of all entries awarded 7 or above.

There were some sensational individual performances to highlight with 12 students achieving at least five of the top grade 9’s.

Cameron Coleman and Izzy Summers both achieved a clean sweep of the top grade 9 scores across all ten subjects which they were entered for.

The other students achieving at least five of the top 9 grades were Sam Blackburn, Tom Pryce, Alicia Counsell, John Hume, Tom Lane Cassell, Louis Magrath, Rebecca Morris, Thea Ramsey, Francesca Watson and James White.

“We are so proud and thrilled with all of our students GCSE performance this year,” said headteacher Mike Fieldhouse.

“These new GCSE qualifications are tough with considerably more content to study and no coursework to bank before the final examinations.

“Basically the two years’ worth of work comes down to the students’ examination performance.

“The pressure to succeed is now considerable and to achieve this set of grades is remarkable.

“Our teachers have again shown their immense experience and ability in preparing the students for these new qualifications.”
