Community cleans up the streets of Pickersleigh

RESIDENTS rallied round to pluck crisp packets, bottles and cans from the streets of Pickersleigh as part of a community litterpick organised by Malvern Hills District Council.

Children and their parents gave up part of their half-term break last Tuesday to take part in the event which saw ten bags filled with rubbish which had not been discarded into a bin.

They were joined by staff from the council, Fortis Living, Action For Children, community litterpickers as well as Coun Jeremy Owenson and Coun Chris O’Donnell, chairman of the district council.

All the children taking part were presented with a certificate in recognition of their efforts.

Coun O’Donnell said: “It’s inspiring to see the community come together at events like these to help support the work of the council in keeping the place where they live clean and tidy. Well done to all those involved.”

Chris Reed, community development team leader at Fortis Living, added: “It’s great to see what can be achieved when community partners and local people come together to take pride in the local environment.”
