County paediatric team to walk Malvern Hills for bereaved children

Malvern Editorial 12th Jul, 2024   0

MEMBERS of a paediatric team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will be completing a 12-mile walk across the Malvern Hills to raise funds for bereaved children.

The aim is to raise funds for bereavement care for children at Worcestershire Royal Hospital during the walk on Sunday (July 14).

Staff members from the hospitals play and paediatric team will be taking on the challenge.

The healthcare specialists support children and young people in hospital when they’re seriously ill. They work together with families in reducing anxiety and making the experience of being in hospital more comfortable.

During bereavement care parents and children create hand and foot casts or gather locks of hair. These activities are ever lasting memories for the parents during the grieving process.

Jennie, a nurse at the hospital said: “Losing a child is unimaginable and we do our best as a department to comfort families during this time.”

She also said the mementos offer families a physical memory of their child during the grieving process and to look back on in the future.

Jennie encourages people to support the fundraising walk so that the hospital can continue to offer this service to many more families.
