Cyber expert praises Malvern firm

A RETIRED security chief has praised staff at a Malvern firm for doing its bit to safeguard businesses from the increasing threat of cyber crime.

Colonel (Retd) John Doody, a strategic cyber security adviser, commended Worcestershire’s response to cyber security at a recent launch event for Growing Cyber – a training programme set up to help firms deal with cyber threats.

The scheme provides up to 12 hours of tailored support from the projects expert providers 3SDL based in Malvern.

Growing Cyber is part of a wider ‘Cyber Valley’ strategy to make Worcestershire the place for cyber businesses and skilled professionals in the UK and is also a key component of the £2.9 billion Strategic Economic Plan which has been submitted to Government by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Col Doody, providing the keynote speech, said: “The Growing Cyber launch event was a great success with businesses across the county taking part, organisations from all sectors were in attendance clearly demonstrating that cyber security is not an isolated issue and affects just about every aspect of daily life.”

More than 25 businesses have already benefited from the 12 hours of support from 3SDL.

Coun Simon Geraghty, responsible for Economy, Skills and Infrastructure, added: “This project is a testament to joint partnership work between the county council, our internet security contractors, 3SDL and the European Regional Development Fund who have matched funded Growing Cyber.

“Businesses understand the need to keep informed about the latest threats from cyber bugs as this can have just as much of an effect on finances as it does on computers and gadgets.”

Businesses wishing to access the Growing Cyber support can also take advantage of the projects matched funded grant of up to £40,000. For more information call 0300 123 14 40.
