Developers waiting for permission to build multi-use development site in Kempsey after joint approval

MAJOR plans to build a mixed-use development site in Kempsey have been jointly approved by Malvern Hills District Council and Worcester City Council.

Developers St Modwen proposed to build 255 homes and 160,000 sq ft of commercial space on the 44-acre Taylors Lane plot just off the A4440.

The area comprises approximately ten per cent of the ‘urban extension’ allowed by the South Worcestershire Development Plan to boost the economy and sustainable development up to 2030.

About 375 new jobs are expected to be created once the development is complete.

Permission to build on the site is expected to be discussed in a few months’ time after approval was given at a council committee meeting at the end of May.

Richard Hickman, planning manager at St Modwen, said: “We have worked closely with officers at Worcester City Council and Malvern Hills District Council for some time to achieve a high quality, deliverable scheme.”

Jonathan Green, director of asset management at St Modwen, added: “This scheme will add to the pipeline of commercial development in the region, helping to address demand for space in a key location and will create up to 375 new jobs.

“The addition of jobs, homes and provisions through the South Worcestershire urban extension shows confidence in the region as a location for growth and development.”
