EU depature no worry for Malvern's Morgan Motor Company who record another successful year

Malvern Editorial 19th Dec, 2017   0

MALVERN’S flagship motor company has revealed it has enjoyed another successful year, despite the economic uncertainties surrounding Brexit.

Morgan Motor Company, based on Pickersleigh Road, have continued to grow exports throughout 2017 due to the ‘weakness of the Great British pound’ and increasing the brand awareness across the globe, particularly in Europe.

And although Morgan is on course to return a greater profit than the previous year, company bosses stressed success this year has not solely been down to the production and selling of its famous cars.

One of the key moments of the year for Morgan was buying back the factory land which it sold in 2006 as a sale and lease back agreement.

The re-purchasing of the site also included the Visitors Centre land which was ‘an integral part of the Morgan operation’.

Steve Morris, managing director of Morgan, said: “The re-purchasing of the land allows Morgan to improve the iconic factory and equip it for 21st century coach building.

“It also signals Morgan’s intent to continue manufacturing in Malvern, our home for 108 years.”

Morgan has also seen an expansion in its dedicated workforce.

A 201-strong team – up by 31 on the previous year and includes six apprentices – now handcraft the Morgan’s from scratch and Mr Morris confirmed more staff were in line to start next year.

But what has pleased the managing director the most this year has been the rising success of Morgan’s factory tours – which bring 30,000 visitors every year to Malvern – and the popularity of this year’s Run for the Hills event.

Thousands of cars descended on the Three Counties Showground over the August Bank Holiday weekend for the biggest get-together of Morgans since the company celebrated its 100th birthday in 2009.

“Our popular factory tours have become an integral part of our operation and we are delighted to bring so many visitors into the local area on an annual basis,”said Mr Morris.

“The highlight event of the year was Run for the Hills.

“Around 6,000 visitors and 2,000 Morgans from 30 different countries around the world joined us to celebrate all things Morgan.

“The event finished on Sunday evening with a spectacular English Symphony Orchestra prom and firework display which I’m sure will leave a lasting memory of Morgan, Malvern and the Run for the Hills event for all in attendance.”

Morgan are now fully focused on growing even more next year with a number of new models and anniversaries to celebrate, one of which is the introduction of the company’s first all-electric production vehicle.

“The EV3 signals an exciting journey for the company as we look into lower emission vehicles and alternative methods of propulsion,” he said.

“The EV3 will be introduced into production in 2018.”
