A NEW flume, wave machine, interactive water play and more will soon be available at Malvern Splash after the centre’s £2million revamp was completed.

The pool, run by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Malvern Hills District Council, will not be able to open until April 12 – depending on if all goes well with the restriction easing roadmap.

And some of the water play features may not open until May 17 – the council is seeking confirmation from the Government.

But the centre is being readied for when it can open.

The project, which started in September last year, marked its the centre’s biggest transformation since opening in 1989 and was part of the council’s five-year plan.

Users will also benefit from fully refurbished swimming pool changing rooms, dedicated changing facilities for people with disabilities, additional family changing areas and a revamped modern poolside.

Improvements have also been made to water quality, thanks to upgrades to plant rooms, the UV filter and a range of energy efficient features have been installed to help reduce the centre’s carbon footprint, including LED lighting and improved glazing.

Residents should visit the Malvern Splash page on the Freedom Leisure website or check out the Malvern Splash social media channels for the latest information.

Coun Peter Whatley, Malvern Hills District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve delivered the Splash project on time and on budget.

“It will provide a first-class facility for residents to enjoy and support our aims to help people get active.

“We had hoped to reopen for February half-term, but the current Covid-19 situation meant that wasn’t possible, so we took the extra time to do some additional work.”

Ivan Horsfall-Turner, Freedom Leisure’s managing director, added: “It’s great to see the investment into redeveloping Malvern Splash completed.

“The Freedom Leisure team are excited to be planning the reopening of the centre and are looking forward to welcoming the Malvern community to come and see the fantastic changes for themselves.

“Being active is a key factor in maintaining our physical and mental health and wellbeing, and Malvern Splash offers lots of opportunities all under one roof.”

Tenbury Community Swimming Pool, gym and studio has also recently undergone a revamp.
