Free event at Malvern Theatres will showcase services for older people

A FREE event at Malvern Theatres will showcase vital services available to older people in the district.

The Showcase of Services for Older People event, in support of World Mental Health Day, will take place on Tuesday, October 9 from 11am to 2pm.

Organised by Malvern Hills District Council and Worcestershire County Council, it is an opportunity for older people, their family, friends and carers to find out more about what services are available to support them to ‘age well’.

The theme of the event is dementia awareness.

Andrew Easton, BBC H&W radio host will be there at 11am to open the event where there will be more than 25 stall holders promoting their services.

Service providers include Age UK, Freedom Leisure, Worcestershire Association of Carers and Malvern Hills Volunteering.

There will be a number of taster sessions and activities running throughout the event, including Dementia Friends sessions, a strength and balance taster session as well as blood pressure checks.

A memory walk to raise awareness of dementia will be taking place from Priory Park at 1:30pm where attendees will have the opportunity to have a short guided tour of the Route to the Hills trail.

Walkers can leave a message on a knitted forget-me-not flower to help remember those they have lost or those who are currently living with dementia.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for housing and communities at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “As part of our commitment to improve people’s health and well-being, we are keen to raise awareness and understanding of the great services on offer for older people in the district.

“With more than 25 organisations exhibiting, it’s going to be a great event for local residents to enjoy.”
