Freedom Leisure aiming to help Malvern residents get into running

Malvern Editorial 20th Mar, 2017   0

FREEDOM Leisure are getting behind Malvern residents who wish to start running with supported sessions.

The first session started last Thursday but the project runs for nine weeks and is designed to support adults in the Malvern Hills area who may not have the confidence to try running.

Run leaders will support participants through each session which start off with a mix of walking and jogging before progressing slowly at the desired pace of those taking part.

Freedom Leisure, who are running the project, operate Malvern Splash on behalf of Malvern Hills District Council.

Adele Hodges, Freedom Leisure community activity development officer, said: “I hear a lot from people who want to join the running revolution but feel like they can’t.

“They see others out pounding the pavements in the evenings or completing marathons and wish they could do the same – but what they don’t realise is that they can.

“Starting running can be daunting, but the key is to start slowly and we can help everyone get on the road to being a runner.

“Our run leaders are there every step of the way to help with technique, motivation and confidence, plus, starting a challenge with others in a similar position engenders a sense of belonging and will set you up with an instant support group and run buddies.”

At the end of the programme participants have the opportunity to take part in a 5km park run with the support of their team leader if they choose.

The programmes cost just £15 for nine weeks and includes a free water bottle.

There are two sessions each Thursday, one in the morning from 10.15am to 11am and one in the afternoon from 5.45pm to 6.30pm.
