TALENTED young sports fanatics in Malvern have until Sunday to submit an application for a free Freedom Leisure membership pass.
It comes as part of the Freedom Leisure Talented Athlete Support Scheme which was launched by the non-profit leisure trust.
It was initially done to give a helping hand to talented athletes in Sussex and it has now been extended for Malvern residents.
There are 30 spaces available for males and females aged between 14 and 25.
Successful applicants will be given a 12-month connected membership which gives them access to all Freedom Leisure centres in the district, including the Malvern Splash Leisure Complex, Sport Dyson Perrins Leisure Centre, Sport Martley Leisure Centre and Tenbury Swimming Pool.
Those who apply must hold a UK top ten ranking in a Sport England recognised sport.
Richard Bagwell, Freedom Leisure’s group sports development manager, said since starting the scheme in Sussex they had supported more than 100 aspiring athletes across a range of disciplines from mainstream sports, such as badminton and basketball, to minority sports, including modern pentathlon.
He added: “As a community leisure provider we feel it is important to cater for all sectors of the community including emerging talent.
“We are delighted to be able to bring this scheme to Malvern.
“By providing free access to training facilities, we hope to make a real difference and help young sporting stars reach their full potential.”
Mark Hammond, Malvern Hills District Council’s contracts and performance manager, said: “The district is blessed with some fantastic, talented athletes.
“I am pleased Freedom Leisure has committed to rolling out the Talented Athlete Support Scheme across all four of our centres and, who knows, maybe we will see a local budding sports star at the Rio Olympic Games next year.”
Winners will be announced on July 9 at the Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards.
