Homes bid delayed for more views

Malvern Editorial 8th May, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

SEVERAL new houses planned for a busy stretch in Powick have been put on hold for ‘better consideration over access’.

Plans to build four homes on land to the rear of Malvern Road were deferred by the Northern Area Development Committee due to fears the site entrance and exit was not wide enough and to look at putting a passing bay on the road.

Further concerns were raised at the meeting last Tuesday (April 28) over the amount of traffic already using the road due to the primary school and parish hall situated next to the proposed development.

Committee member Tom Wells, standing for Powick, said: “I can’t say how angry I am about the way in which the village of Powick has been bombarded with housing developments.

“This has come about as a direct consequence of the incompetence of the district council in not having an up to date local plan and five-year housing supply.

“I can’t over-emphasise how much traffic goes into the village hall every day as it is a huge amount.

“I am hoping highways have a good look and have a good idea about visibility because at the moment it is impossible to look right and have any sense to know what is about to come down and that conflict of movement does worry me.”

A total of nine members voted to defer the plans with two abstaining.
