Hundread Challenge raises £3,500 for St Richard's Hospice and Barnards Green Cricket Club

MEMBERS of Malvern’s Barnards Green Cricket Club put their best foot forward to raise more than £3,500 for St Richard’s Hospice and the BGCC by taking part in the ‘Hundread’ walking challenge.

Named after the new cricket competition, participants were tasked with walking 100 laps of the pitch totaling in excess of 15 miles and taking most strollers over four hours to complete.

The cash will help adults with a serious progressive illness and the club itself so it can continue to provide facilities and services for its cricket and social members.

Organiser Chris Smedley, from main sponsor Malvern Engineering, said “The walk was a lot harder than I thought but it was worth the effort and pain knowing we can support both organisations to carry on their good work in the community.

“It really was a team effort to get it organised in just over two weeks.”

He thanked all the walkers, volunteers and staff who ran the barbecue and raffle and provided participants with refreshments.

One member, Kath Wood, also walked around Malvern Rugby Club and Malvern Town FC as part of her 15 miles.

She said: “I am so grateful to supporters of both clubs and their opposition on the day for their generous donations.”

People can still donate at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bgcchundread and help the group reach £4,000.
