Lloyds Bank under fire for plans to close another branch in Malvern district

LLOYDS Bank has come under fire for proposals to close another of its branches in the district.

The company now plans to shut the Lloyds at Malvern Link.

It follows the closure of branches in Barnards Green and Upton-upon-Severn.

The bank claims the closure has been agreed because of declining customers using the bank and it will be urging customers to use the nearby post office for banking.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin said: “It is extremely disappointing to hear that Lloyds is further withdrawing from the local high streets and handing over business to local post offices.

“I understand a quarter of Lloyds customers using their local branch in Malvern Link are aged over 75 and my principal concern is for them.

“Whenever a branch closure is announced, the news causes anxiety for these customers and I am hoping that the bank will do its best to support them.

“I’m glad that the local post office has had a recent refurbishment and I will be watching this matter closely to ensure that the store is able to cope with the extra work.

She added she planned to talk in more detail about the latest planned closure with Lloyds Bank’s management.

“I’ll be keeping a close eye on how this affects both its customers and also the wider trading community.”
