Local artists to showcase work

Malvern Editorial 28th Aug, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

PAINTERS, printmakers and potters from the area will be showcasing their artistic talents when they open their doors to the public later this weekend.

People will have the chance to visit studios for free where they can view artists work in an informal setting between Saturday, August 29 and Monday, August 31.

The event, which will also feature sculptors and stained glass artists, has been launched as part of the first Worcestershire Open Studios, which will also give creative residents the opportunity to create their own pieces.

Most artists will be opening their home studios to visitors, with locations throughout Malvern. Painter Dora Williams is on Abbey Road, printmaker Andrew Judd is off Belmont Road, painter Kamala Todd is on Church Road in Malvern Link and landscape watercolourist Steve Letchford is in Leigh Sinton.

Mr Letchford said: “Worcestershire Open Studios gives the public a chance to meet the artists, discuss the art, and possibly encourage those who have wanted to try it for themselves.

“Art changed my life. It has taught me to observe buildings and landscapes, and to see the beauty that is around us all. Hopefully some of this can be found in my paintings and drawings.”

Meanwhile, the St. Peter’s Printmakers and their friends will be exhibiting at St. Peter’s Church on Cowleigh Bank and Bridge House Art Gallery in Upton-upon-Severn will feature the work of Gerald and Janice Savine and members of their weekly art classes.

Henry’s Café in Great Malvern, Colwall Coffee Lounge and The Stables Tea Room in Upton are all partnering with the event to refresh weary art lovers.

Across the county, 70 artists are participating in Worcestershire Open Studios at 27 different venues.
