Malvern businesses join forces to host Dementia UK fund-raiser this weekend

FIVE Malvern-based businesses are joining forces this weekend to host a fund-raising event in aid of Dementia UK.

Led by domestic cleaning company Bright and Beautiful Malvern Hills (B&BMH), the charity fund-raiser is set to take place on Saturday at the The Vintage Coffee Shop in Malvern Link from 2pm to 7pm.

The event has been inspired by Malvern resident Malcolm Porter who was a regular visitor to the Vintage Cafe until he unfortunately was diagnosed with dementia.

With the help of café owner Tanya Trotman, Mr Porter has moved into a care home best suited to his needs.

Tanya said: “There are so many elderly people in the Malvern communitywho do not have the care and support of family members or loved ones.

“Malcolm is a prime example of this, who without the support of my husband, son and I, would not be in the right care home suited to his support needs, and really understand his condition.

“I am delighted we have been able to help Malcolm, and in hosting this event with other local businesses, I am hopeful to raise much needed funds for Dementia UK whilst raising awareness for the elderly members of our community who often suffer alone and in silence.”

The fund-raising event will also mark a celebratory occasion as Tanya’s son Max Holt is hanging up his apron to fulfill his dreams of becoming a chef in Bristol, and in turn, will be handing the keys over to Stuart Callister, owner of B&BMH, to transform the shop into the company’s new High Street premises.

Mr Callister said: “The Trotman family have become very good friends of ours, and we are delighted to extend our support for their Dementia UK fundraiser event, whilst marking a new and exciting change for the building.

“What’s more, we are extremely grateful to all local businesses who have offered their support, and demonstrated true community spirit, as we join together in what will hopefully be a fantastic event to help the elderly members of our community.”

Other business supporters include Petals Florist, Make More Noise PR Agency and community companion service Driving Miss Daisy, who will be attending as a sponsor on the day to talk about their service.

Tickets for the fund-raiser cost £5 and can be bough from Petals Florists or the cafe.

A finger buffet and glass of wine is included in the ticket price.
