Malvern, Colwall and Storridge artists to give 'behind the scenes insight' during Worcestershire Open Studios event

ARTISTS in Colwall, Storridge and Malvern are among those opening the doors to their studios over the bank holiday weekend.

The Worcestershire Open Studios – the county’s biggest free art event – returns for its sixth year and runs from next Saturday to Monday, August 28 to 31.

Visitors will get an behind the scenes insight into how artists create their work with 82 taking part at 58 different venues.

This includes 12 artists in Malvern, eight in the Colwall area and four at Birchwood Hall in nearby Storridge.

Colwall painter Anna Cummings said: “I rediscovered my love of painting when I did a course at Malvern School of Art in 2014 and I have been painting full time since, exhibiting with the Herefordshire Guild of Craftsmen in the three counties and beyond.

“I’m delighted to be able to welcome visitors again. I’ll be showing an entirely new selection of my oil paintings of the Malvern Hills and seascapes from the Hebrides to Cornwall.

“I look forward to seeing you for a chat!”

Malvern photographer Mark Zytynski added: “I have a passion for trees and woodlands.

“Working from high resolution digital photographic images, I produce limited edition mixed media artworks and fine art, painterly prints using highly textured watercolour papers.

“My aim is to create artworks and prints that will evoke the same feeling in the observer that I experienced in the ‘wild’.

“I have a permanent gallery space in my studio, The Tree Gallery, which will be open for Worcestershire Open Studios.”

Entry to all venues is free and visitors will also be invited to enter a free prize draw.

Event sponsors, Bevere Gallery, have donated a £250 voucher towards artwork or framing from their gallery.

There is also a prize of a £100 voucher, which can be used to purchase artworks from one of our participating artists.

Full details of how to enter will be available at each artist’s studio.

Visitors can plan their route with an interactive postcode search on the Worcestershire Open Studios website or by picking up a map in libraries and tourist information centres.
