Malvern community gets creative with '12 Days of Christmas' challenge

Malvern Editorial 14th Dec, 2021   0

MEMBERS of a Malvern community have risen to the challenge of creating ’12 Days of Christmas’ designs in the run up to the festive season.

For the past 20 years, those living in Wilton Road, Lower Wilton Road and Gilbert Road – which are all linked – have hosted street parties and other events.

Obviously, this proved difficult during the pandemic so two years ago a Facebook page was started for the residents.

Members Emma Buckingham and Kelly Shaw-Young laid down the gauntlet for people to create the 12 Days of Christmas with each house lighting their windows with images from one line of the classic song.

It culminated last Saturday in a ‘bring and share’ mulled wine and mince pies (donated by Waitrose) event and Carol singing in the street.

Photographer and community member Tarquin Shaw-Young took these pictures of the creations.

He said: “The lights and displays have caused a lot of interest as people have been flocking to find which house are doing which day and they will be up for the run up to Christmas.”

The winner was the Atkins family as voted by the street with their ‘Seven Swans a Swimming’ (above left and below).
