Malvern gateway entrance is transformed

Malvern Editorial 4th Apr, 2018   0

THE ENTRANCE to one of Malvern’s prized assets has been transformed as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Route to the Hills project.

Visitors to Malvern Splash and Priory Park will have noticed the new metal gates installed at the entrance which have been forged to resemble the slopes of the famous hills.

The Malvern Stone wall has also been rebuilt, new block paving has been laid and a new gas lamp and seating installed. Drainage in the area has also been improved.

The enhancements form part of the latest stage of the Great Malvern: Route to the Hills project which will create a new trail stretching from the railway station through the town and on to the hills.

It will offer visitors a new way to explore the town while learning more about Malvern’s fascinating heritage through a series of plaques, signs, benches and other creative installations.

The project is funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and is being overseen by a partnership of ten key organisations, led by Malvern Hills District Council.

Coun David Watkins, portfolio holder for healthier communities on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This work has created an impressive gateway to a route used by hundreds of people every day to access the park, Malvern Splash or the town centre.

“I’d urge people to come and view the finished result for themselves.”
