Malvern Hills District Council leader's rallying call for community to come together during second lockdown

Malvern Editorial 4th Nov, 2020   0

A RALLYING call has been issued to Malvern residents to come together and show the ‘amazing community spirit’ displayed during the last lockdown as the second one is about to get under way.

Malvern Hills District Council leader Coun Sarah Rouse said: “Nobody wanted a second lockdown but it is necessary to bring infection rates down, protect our NHS and save lives.

“The district showed amazing community spirit earlier this year to come through the first lockdown, and I know people will rally together again to support each other.”

She added Malvern Hills District Council would be doing all it could to support businesses and residents during this challenging period.

“It’s really important we all do everything we can to protect ourselves, our loved ones and each other, by following the new rules and helping us get back on top of this virus.”

A new business support grant scheme will be launched shortly once funding and final guidance from the Government has been received.

Officers will be working with partners and the voluntary and community sector to make sure vulnerable people have the support they need.

A promotional campaign is also being launched which will encourage people to support local traders forced to close over the next few weeks.

Should lockdown restrictions be eased in December, then promotional activity in the run up to Christmas is also planned to support retailers.

As with the first lockdown, the council is also aiming to maintain essential services such as waste and recycling collections.
