Malvern Theatres' Covid-19 fund-raising appeal reaches £181,000

THE COVID-19 Emergency Appeal launched by Malvern Theatres has now reached £181,000 thanks to the generosity of the local community.

The campaign set a target of £200,000 by Christmas to secure the long-term future of the venue.

Bosses say the Covid crisis is far from over for theatres though, despite Malvern gradually reopening its auditoria to socially distanced visitors.

Malvern Theatres Chief Executive Nic Lloyd said: “I’ve been at the helm of Malvern Theatres for more than two decades and never faced such a challenging situation as this.

“The support of our community has been astonishing though, so thank you.

“Without our audiences, I don’t know where we would be today.

“Sadly, we cannot relax just yet.

“Our future remains uncertain and we will continue to fight this crisis until Malvern Theatres is safe.

“The theatre is at the heart of our community, bringing people together 364 days of the year. Not only that, the local economy relies on us for shoppers, diners, and hotel bookings.

“We must protect the theatre to protect the town.”

Aside from making a donation, which can be done online, people can support the theatre by choosing ‘Malvern Theatres’ as their designated Amazon Smile charity, by hosting fund-raisers through JustGiving or Facebook or by purchasing a membership or gift voucher for future use.

Malvern Theatres is open for cinema and some stage shows and concerts with strict social distancing in place.
