Malvern Town Football Club to host new multi-skill sport sessions for children

Malvern Editorial 6th Feb, 2017   0

NEW multi-skill and sport sessions for school children in the Malvern Hills district are to be rolled out at the end of this month.

Leisure centre operators Freedom Leisure, which run three centres on behalf of Malvern Hills District Council, are working with the district council and three community-focused organisations to provide the sessions.

Designed by Freedom Leisure’s sports development team in Malvern, the sessions introduce children to fundamental skills needed for sport and physical activity as well as supporting them to learn both movement and mental skills which prepare them for school and sport life.

Some studies have even suggested benefits of multi-skill training include increased long term participation and performance in sport, as well improved academic performance.

The sessions will be at Malvern Town Football Club, on Langland Avenue, and cost £12 for six weeks with separate sessions for pre-school aged and primary school aged children.

Coun David Watkins, responsible for healthier communities at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are pleased to be working alongside key partners to offer these sessions to children in the community.

“I urge all parents to sign their children up and equip them with the vital skills needed to excel in future chosen sports and physical education.”

Pre-school sessions (two to four-year-olds) run from 10am to 11am and start on Monday, February 27 while primary sessions (five to seven-year-olds) run from 4pm to 5pm and start on Wednesday, March 1.

Sessions are expected to be very popular with only limited spaces available.
