Malvern Well Dressing Festival is returning and is set to be 'out of this world'

Malvern Editorial 23rd Apr, 2021   0

THE Malvern Well Dressing Festival will be ‘out of this world’ when it returns next month with a ‘Planet and Stars’ theme.

The popular festival, running from next Saturday, May 1, to the following Sunday, May 9, will see up to 49 wells and spouts creatively decorated.

The annual event celebrates Malvern’s history, from its iconic spring water and Victorian Water Cure to the area’s ancient Pagan traditions.

It is brought to the town by the Malvern Spa Association with local businesses and community groups taking part.

Visitors can view the wonderful creations by buying a map from the Malvern Tourist Information Centre for £1 and setting off across the hills on foot, by bike or on a self-drive tour.

The map can also be downloaded free at www.visitthemalverns.org/welldressing

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 safety restrictions the Water Festival activities, minibus tours and public well blessings will not go ahead.

The Malvern Spa Association Summer Exhibition will also be held next week on Church Walk from Waitrose to the Priory Gateway.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of breath-taking photos from Monday, April 26, to the end of June.

Victoria Carman, Malvern Hills District Council’s visitor economy officer, said: “We are thrilled to hear Malvern Well Dressing will go ahead.

“It is wonderful that families and local community groups are coming together to dress the wells, springs and spouts to celebrate Malvern’s rich history.

“Thank you to Malvern Spa Association for all their hard work in helping to make this happen.”

Covid-19 Government guidelines must be followed during the event.
