MORE than 200 young people across Worcestershire have been able to find specialist jobs, thanks to the Kickstart scheme, writes Amy Ford.

To prevent long-term unemployment the Government directly paid employers to create new opportunities for the county’s 16 to 24-year-olds.

Among the companies which now have new employees are Magal Automotive Ltd in Stourport, Hartlebury Castle in Wyre Forest, Classic Engine Workshop Limited in Redditch.

The last placement of 200 people was Mae who joined Candice Smallm the director of Candid Owl – an Evesham business specialising in handmade to order bespoke lamp shades. The link-up was a mutually beneficial partnership for both parties.

Candice said: “The scheme was really useful in enabling us to create a role which we wouldn’t have been able to recruit for without the support the council supplied us with.”

Mae added: “I am very thankful for the Kickstart scheme as I got a job very quickly that I really enjoy and I am learning a lot in an amazing work environment.”

Coun Marc Bayliss, Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: “Finding the first step on the working ladder is often the hardest stage of your career and this scheme has given people much needed support to get started.”
