MALVERN’S new mayor is hoping to bring enthusiasm to the ‘awesome’ role he has been elected in.
Town councillor Coun Julian I’Anson, who has been deputy mayor to Coun Julian Roskams for the last two years, was handed the chains at a meeting last Tuesday (May 19).
“It feels awesome because it is a super town with so much going for it,” Coun I’Anson said.
“I read somewhere people thought Malvern was supposed to be on a downward slope but I do not see that at all, I think it is a great town.
“We have two marvellous railway stations, we have got a marvellous theatre with top London shows – there is a lot going for it.
“I can bring enthusiasm for the town which will hopefully be noticed by the towns’ people when we meet.”
Coun I’Anson also chose child abuse charity NSPCC as his charity of the year. Fund-raising activities over the next 12 months will all be in aid of that cause.
“An important thing is my charity NSPCC,” Coun I’Anson added. “It should not be necessary in this day and age but people – as we are talking right now – are going through hell so anything we can do to help the little victims is a good idea.”
Coun I’Anson was voted in by 12 votes to four. Fellow Town councillor Coun Cynthia Palmer was made deputy mayor.
