New-look Malvern Hills District Council now in place

THE NEW-LOOK Malvern Hills District Council was put together at the authority’s annual general meeting following the May election.

Coun Tom Wells (Independent) was re-elected as the council leader.

During the ‘changing of the chain’, Coun Barbara Jones-Williams was elected as chairman and takes over from former chairman, Coun John Michael.

Coun Natalie McVey (Green Party) was re-elected as Deputy Leader and Coun Daniel Walton (Independent) was elected as vice-chairman.

The Portfolio Holders are as follows include Tom Wells (Community Services), Coun McVey (Housing and Health), Coun David Harrison (Planning, Infrastructure and Flooding), Coun Beverley Nielson (Economic Development and Tourism), Coun John Raine (Environment) and Coun John Gallagher (Resources).

No overall party or group is currently in control of Malvern Hills District Council.




Following the Local Government Boundary review, 31 seats were up for election to represent 18 district wards.

The political balance now stands as 11 Independents, seven Greens, seven Conservatives, three Liberal Democrats and three Malvern Hills Independents.


Coun Wells said: “It is a real privilege to serve the people of our towns and villages.

“It is vital that the council listens to the views of local residents and that is why I shall immediately set up my Talk to Tom Leader’s Surgeries again.”
