Play equipment set for upgrade at Malvern's Priory Park

Malvern Editorial 30th Jul, 2021   0

PLANS are being finalised to replace the play area in Malvern’s Priory Park.

Malvern Hills District Council is working with a specialist play equipment company on the new design which will use planting and materials to give a natural feel, while also allowing for a range of play including inclusive and accessible elements.

Once finished the plan, which boasts equipment especially designed for the park, will be shared with the public.

It is hoped work will start in the autumn and be ready for early next year.

The play area replacement is part of the wider improvement plan for Priory Park.

As part of the first phase of the plan, the shelters by the pond have been repaired and refurbished while paths around the park have also been resurfaced. Other decoration and repairs will take place over the summer months.

The next stage will begin in September when the leak in the upper pond will be repaired. The pond will also be drained and desilted to help improve water quality.

Four recycling bins have already been installed around the park to help residents reduce their waste and wildflowers including cowslips and wild daffodils have been planted to improve biodiversity. This is part of the Natural Networks

Programme run by Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.

Coun Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We’re excited to be sharing some early details with people about the replacement of the play area and look forward to sharing the final design and to work starting.

“We have several improvements planned for Priory Park to help make it an even better place to spend time and enjoy being outdoors.”
