A GROUP of Malvern youngsters got to meet their football heroes at the Cerebral Palsy Football World Championship 2015.

A total of eight children from the Newtown Sports Junior Football Club’s Cerebral Palsy Team were given the honour of being mascots for Australia’s match against Russia.

This is the first time the championship has been held in England, with St George’s Park in Staffordshire selected as the venue which is home to 24 of national teams. They include the England blind, partially sighted, deaf and cerebral palsy squads.

During the event, the youngsters which included Ned, Ruby, Owen, Loan, Alexandros, Freddie, Alfie and Ryan, were given the chance to accompany the players onto the pitch for the national anthems.

As well as this, the young players were also handed the responsibility of being ball boys and girl.

The children near the Australian goal were put through their paces as Russia had plenty of shots at target as they eased to a 5-0 victory.

The Australian captain David Barber then thanked the team for their support and Ned presented him with a plaque to remember Newtown Sports JFC.

In the afternoon the team were also able to enjoy the England’s sold-out match against Ukraine, who are ranked number two in the world.

The England captain Jack Rutter then took the time to meet the young team and he too thank them for going along to watch.

Newtown Sports Junior Football Club was first set up in January by father Scott Tranmer who could not find a suitable youth club for his son Ned, who has cerebral palsy.
