Residents could save with energy switch scheme

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to sign up to a scheme to help slash their energy bills.

Malvern Hills District Council is offering homeowners the chance to join its fair energy scheme so they can start saving money on winter heating bills.

The scheme, which is free to join, gives people the chance to switch energy provider as part of a large collective with the potential to make savings of up to £250 per year off their annual energy bill.

All those who have signed up by midnight on Monday, November 18, will be entered into a reverse auction after which an energy company will make personalised offers.

It forms part of The Big Community Switch, which more than 50 councils across the UK are taking part in.

Deputy leader Coun Paul Swinburn said: “The more people who register for the scheme, the better savings will be for individuals.

“The power of collective switching on this scale means that this is an excellent opportunity for households to make savings on their fuel bills.

“Residents have nothing to lose by registering their interest because they don’t have to accept the offer once it’s made.”
