Spreading the word on police schemes

Malvern Editorial 18th Jun, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE ‘EYES and ears’ of Malvern will be out in force next week to promote police schemes in the area.

Officers in Malvern have backed Neighbourhood Watch Week, a national campaign which runs from Monday (June 22) to Friday (June 26) and aims to boost the profile of the voluntary organisation.

Paul Leopold and John Lakeman, the lead NHW co-ordinators within the district, said they were hoping the week would show different ways people could get involved in the event and receive information from the police and their communities.

A Neighbourhood Watch bingo scheme will also be carried out for residents to take in what is around their home.

The card can be downloaded from www.ourwatch.org.uk with people asked to get a photo of the three items listed for that day and tweet them using the hashtag #neighbourhoodbingo.

Sgt Ian Blanchard, Malvern Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I am extremely pleased to support Malvern Hills Neighbourhood Watch.

“It plays an important role within the community in being the eyes and ears, reporting any suspicious activity to the police.

“It also gives valuable support to vulnerable members of the community by supplying crime prevention advice and information about their neighbourhood.

“Neighbourhood Watch Week is about making people aware of the existence of schemes within their area and there is always a drive to recruit more members.”
