Tenbury Wells craft cider awarded best county drinks producer

A TENBURY Wells craft cider has been named as the best county drinks producers at the top tourism awards in the region.

Visit Worcestershire bestowed the honour at its Awards for Excellence ceremony in Malvern following a tough judging process.

Geoff Thompson, from Oldfields Farm, said: “We’ve always felt our cider is first class and it’s very heartening to see that the rest of Worcestershire feels the same.

“Things just go better when everyone is pulling together so this award is for the whole team.

“We wouldn’t make the cider we do without the graft of our gang on the farm and without the technical support and fantastic distribution network of our sister company, Hobsons Brewery.”

The Best Drinks Producer in Worcestershire award is the latest in a long line of accolades won by the Oldfields team including a sector-leading three star Great Taste award and being named one of the ten best British ciders by the Independent Newspaper.

Success comes after the Thompson’s upscaled their cider production.

For more than 50 years the farm produced a few barrels a year for friends and seasonal hop pickers, but now the current facilities include a bottle plant, co-funded by a Worcester Local Enterprise Partnership grant, a keg line and top of the range pressing and fermenting equipment.
