The folk musical and true story - Petticoat Council - comes to Malvern Theatres tonight

Malvern Editorial 24th Sep, 2021   0

A FOLK musical telling the inspiring true story about the first majority female council in the UK comes to Malvern Theatres at 7.30pm tonight (Friday).

Petticoat Council features an all-female company, including the great niece of one of the women involved in the original story.

It was written by Frankie Meredith and is produced by local company Steph Hartland Productions.

It centres on a group of women from Bishop’s Itchington near Coventry who, in 1949, formed the first female majority council in the UK post-Second World War.

The authority transformed the village into a thriving community.

Incorporating storytelling, song, dance and puppetry, this show is aimed at audiences within the communities on which it is based.

It has been supported by Arts Council England, the Coventry City of Culture 2021 and Warwick Arts Centre.

Performances are at community centres and village halls and the tour is focused on engaging with locals who may not usually go to the theatre.

Tickets are £15.68 (£13.44 concessions) – available by clicking here.
