THE HIVE is set to reopen on Monday, September 7, following yesterday evening’s fire.

The blaze broke out around 6.30pm in the kitchens of its cafe and damage has been caused to the areas.

The children’s library and one of the meeting rooms also sustained smoke damage but the rest of the building is unscathed.

The Hive in Worcester is set to re-open on Monday following a small fire in the kitchens of the café yesterday evening (September 3)

There is a large amount of soot around the building and on the upper levels and no damage has been caused to the archives.

A clean-up operation is now taking place and will continue over the weekend and, following extra safety checks, The Hive will reopen on Monday.

A joint statement from Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester said: “We’re looking at a phased reopening of The Hive from Monday.

“It will remain closed tomorrow whilst the clean-up operation takes place.

“We would like to thank Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service for all their efforts in attending the fire last night and also our colleagues at Bellrock who have done an amazing job especially getting rid of large amounts of water.”

No-one was injured in the fire as the building had closed at 6pm so no staff or visitors were inside at the time.

Fire crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene within minutes and stayed for around four hours making the area safe.
