RESIDENTS who were evacuated from their homes when police found chemicals and ammunition in a nearby property, have been allowed to return.
Officers put a cordon around several homes on Walwyn Road, Colwall, yesterday (Sunday) and explosives experts were called in. They are now happy there is no danger to the public.
Supt Sue Thomas said: “I’d like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while we have dealt with this incident and can reassure them that, after thorough checks by experts, we are happy that the area is safe and there is no risk to the public.
“We have been assisted greatly by colleagues from the Army and Hereford and Worcester Fire Service who have helped to ensure that this situation could be dealt with as quickly as possible and ensure that disruption to local people was minimised as far as possible.”
A 49-year-old man from Worcester was arrested by police in relation to the incident and remains in custody where he is being questioned.
