DRIVERS are being warned to be on their guard following a number of catalytic converter thefts across Worcestershire.
More thieves are targeting cars to strip them of their devices because of a rise in the value of the precious metals they contain.
Police say thieves tend to primarily target vehicles such as vans and 4x4s because they sit higher and it is easier for them to get under to steal the converters.
There are a number of actions people can take to prevent the thefts.
Vehicles should be parked in garages where possible or on driveways with motion-activated lighting.
Failing that cars and vans should be left in well-lit areas and forensic security marking kits are available for people to mark their catalytic converters.
Locks can also be fitted, along with signage to deter thieves.
Anyone who witnesses a catalytic converter theft should call 999 if crimes are in progress or 101 if incidents have already happened.
