A SALUTE to brave men and women across the country was made at County Hall to mark Armed Forces Day today (Saturday).

Among those in attendance at the tribute on Monday (June 20) were Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Brigadier Roger Brunt, Paul Robinson, Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Council, Coun Chris Rogers, chairman of Worcestershire County Council and Coun Richard Morris, chair of Worcestershire’s Armed Forces Covenant Partnership

Every year, the County Council join in with this tradition by raising the armed forces flag outside County Hall to publicly honour and recognise all the men and women from across the county, who are a part of the Armed Forces community, as well as those from the UK and around the world.

This year, a brief ceremony after the flag raising was held outside the Council Chamber near the remembrance memorial.

Short speeches were given at the ceremony by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire and Coun Rogers.

As part of his speech, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant said: “Armed Forces Week gives us the opportunity to show our support to those serving in the Armed Forces and it is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge and applaud all they do on our behalf.

“Service personnel from the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force are constantly being deployed, protecting the national interest on our behalf and we can help them in their important task by expressing our support not just for them but for their families.”

Coun Richard Morris, Chair of Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership added: “Every year it is our honour to celebrate the outstanding contribution of our Armed Forces.

“It gives us great pride raising the Armed Forces flag as a symbol of our thanks for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, our serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans, and cadet forces.

“This year takes on a special significance as we reflect on the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, a war that many of us remember and that we as a Council recently acknowledged at length with a unanimous motion at our last full meeting.

“Our Armed Forces play a crucial role in many different roles each and every day and it is important that we take a moment to reflect on this and pay our respects to the many roles and sacrifices they undertake whether it be supporting the NHS, the Commonwealth Games or the terrific support to Ukraine.”
