A CROSS-PARTY opposition group formed at County Hall four years ago has disbanded as the countdown to 2021’s proposed Worcestershire County Council elections begins.

The 2017 group, made up of Green Party and Liberal Democrats councillors elected at the last poll four years ago, served as an alternative opposition voice to the ruling Conservative administration at County Hall.

Council chiefs felt the the group would emerge as a strong voice in the chamber and an alternative power base to the county Labour group, led by Redditch’s Coun Robin Lunn.

Coun Liz Tucker, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Worcestershire County Council said: “The 2017 Group was set up after the 2017 elections to ensure a strong voice for Liberal Democrats and Green Party councillors.

“It has worked well and provided a strong challenge to the Tory administration.

“However, one of the group, Coun Tom Wells, is no longer a member of the Liberal Democrats the time is right to dissolve the 2017 Group.

“This will enable Liberal Democrats and Green councillors to make their preparations for the 2021 County Council elections to be held next May,” she added.
