Hillsiders face Frome Valley visit as City hit Haughmond for six

Malvern Editorial 2nd Apr, 2022   0

MALVERN Town will face two games with Brimscombe and Thrupp in nine days after advancing in the Hellenic League Challenge Cup.

A deserved 3-1 victory over local rivals Westfields at a sun-kissed HDAnywhere Community Stadium on Saturday (March 26) secured their progress and a trip to Gloucestershire on Wednesday (April 6).

The Hillsiders then welcome the team from the Frome Valley to Malvern on Good Friday (April 15) as the curtain comes down on their league campaign.

There were just 29 seconds on the clock against Westfields when a neat move ended with a handball inside the area by the visitors and Harry Clark stepped up to coolly convert from the penalty spot.

With the visitors on top at the start of the second period, Town grabbed a second goal somewhat out of the blue when determined play from Dave Reynolds made it 2-0.

The third Malvern goal soon followed when a sweeping move ended with Matthew Turner turning the ball home from close range before a late goal from the visitors reduced the arrears.

Goals from Will Gibbons, Craig Jones and Reiss Taylor-Randle sent Worcester City back to winning ways at Bewdley Town on Saturday.

The 3-0 victory took the Blue and Whites past 50 points for the campaign as they bid to finish the season as high as possible in the Midland Premier Division.

City thrashed Haughmond 6-0 on Tuesday (March 29) evening ahead of a keenly-contested derby at Stourport Swifts on Saturday (April 2), kick off at 3pm
