Impressive Malvern Town leave boss Jones purring

MANAGER Les Jones was left impressed with one of the ‘best performances’ of the season as Malvern Town maintained their West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division title charge with a 2-0 victory at AFC Bridgnorth.

A goal in each half from Josh Hunt and Sam Rathbone ensured the Hillsiders picked up the three points on Saturday to extend their unbeaten league run to 11 games.

The victory also put pressure on the title-chasing sides.

Third placed Tividale’s scheduled match against Hereford Lads Club was postponed and fourth placed Wolverhampton Sporting Community were in FA Vase action.

“We had to win,” said Jones. “It was important that we kept our momentum going especially when our closest rivals were not in league action.

“Bridgnorth’s pitch was far from the best but I could not fault the performance from the lads.

“To have come away with a clean sheet was a bonus too and I said to the players afterwards that it was one of the best displays of the season.”

Malvern will look to keep their momentum going on Saturday when they welcome Bilston Town Community to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Hillsiders edged past Bilston 4-3 in the second game of the season and Jones is hoping for a more comfortable affair this time around.

“Bilston are a very strong and big unit so by no means are we in for an easy game, but it is vital we keep on winning to keep the pressure on the sides around us,” he said.

“Hopefully the lads can produce and extend our unbeaten run.”
