Jones: Malvern Town will go on the offensive for Ellesmere clash

MALVERN Town boss Les Jones has urged his side to press high up the pitch when they entertain Ellsemere Rangers on Saturday in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

The Hillsiders welcome the Meresiders to the HDAnywhere Community Stadium hoping to make it three wins on the spin in the league.

Rangers are on a poor run of form at the moment, having gone five league games without a win, but Jones knows form can count for nothing.

“It’s going to be a very tough game for us,” he said.

“After losing two on the trot we have got back to winning ways and we have to get another three points.

“Hopefully we will go out there and put in a strong performance and make sure we are better in the final third.

“We are an attack-minded team so we will be pressing high and getting right at them – that is our strategy.”

Malvern go into Saturday’s league game on the back of an entertaining 4-3 victory over Stone Old Alleynians.

Stone had opened the scoring inside five minutes through Sam Wilson before two goals from the Hillsiders’ leading scorer Dave Reynolds either side of half time put the hosts ahead.

Wilson then grabbed his second to pull the visitors level before Matt Thomas fired them into a 3-2 lead.

However, the drama was not over as goals from Josh Weatherby and Harry Wickett inside the final five minutes handed Jones’ side a thrilling 4-3 victory.

“Since our two defeats we have got some confidence back in the squad and the game was more comfortable for us than the scoreline suggested,” added Jones.

“Their number ten (Sam Wilson) was a really good player and caused us some problems but at the end of the day we got the right result which the performance deserved.”
