Late show sees Ledbury grab a dramatic victory

TWO TRIES in the final seven minutes saw Ledbury come from behind to snatch a dramatic 26-21 win over leaders Old Yardleians at Ross Road on Saturday.

The Herefordshire outfit looked set to suffer another blow to their promotion ambitions from Midlands Three West (South) as they trailed 21-16.

But in a thrilling late twist, Ali Martin went over to level the tie before scrum half Tom Houlbrooke scored in the last play of the match to secure victory.

After holding second placed Old Wheatleyans to an impressive draw in Coventry last week, Ledbury started on the front foot and opened the scoring with a George Bennion penalty.

However, it was the visitors who found themselves in front at half time as they crossed the whitewash before landing a penalty.

Bennion added six further points to Ledbury’s tally, but Yards cancelled his efforts out with two penalties of their own at the start of the second period.

And the away side continued to respond to whatever the hosts could throw at them as Kieram Hallam touched down to draw level before Yards pulled clear again with a try.

But Ledbury refused to give in and they completed a storming fightback in the closing stages with tries from Martin and Houlbrooke.

Paul Rudland’s men will now be hoping to back it up when they visit Pershore on Saturday (3pm).
